At around 9:30 p.m., officers were called to a disturbance at a home in the area of 87 Avenue and 178 Street where they found an injured man. The 59-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital.

An autopsy completed Thursday morning showed the man died of a single stab wound. Edmonton police have deemed the death homicide.

Laurie Cunningham, 60, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with second-degree murder and possession of a dangerous weapon.

The name of the victim is not being released by police. A news release from the EPS said this is because “it does not serve an investigative purpose, there is no risk to public safety and the EPS has a duty to protect the privacy rights of the victims and their families.”

Police said the victim and Cunningham knew each other.
