Developers of the McKinley Beach condos and townhouses in Kelowna are dealing with the aftermath of a landslide on the development’s construction site.
A developer on site said they’d been dealing with groundwater in the area. By Monday, they thought the water had stopped but crews noticed cracks developing on the hillside Wednesday morning. The developer said by 10:30 a.m., a hillside gave way.
A rock retaining wall came down amid the debris and impeded access to some of the housing construction sites below. There’s no word on the extent of the damage, but construction on those sites has stopped for the time being.
Developers believe the issue is isolated to that one area, and construction is continuing above the landslide site.
A team surveyed the surrounding area to ensure its safety.
