“It was actually a passerby who found the body of a burned cat near Casgrain Avenue and Rosemont Boulevard and reported it to us,” said Montreal SPCA animal advocacy lawyer Sophie Gaillard.

The cat had extensive burns on its body.

“I find this awful. It doesn’t make sense,” said J-F Morin, who lives nearby.

“You never know what people are capable of. It’s frightening, actually,” said Kevin McCoy, who works in the neighbourhood and says he saw the body.

According to the SPCA, this is the second time a burned cat was found in the area within the last six months.

“At the end of April, another cat was found very, very close, also burned, which is why we’re taking this even more seriously, given that this seems to be a pattern of behaviour,” Gaillard said.

The SPCA posted a photo of the cat’s body on its Facebook page Wednesday, asking for help from the public.

“We encourage them to reach out to us,” Gaillard told Global News.

“Tips are treated confidentially. They don’t have to give us their name, just any information they have.”
