When the Peterborough Petes take on their rivals the Oshawa Generals on Feb. 3, they will be decked out in pink jerseys.

It’s the 9th annual Pink in the Rink event to support and raise awareness for women’s cancers.

The goal this year is to raise $60,000. In eight years, Peterborough’s Pink in the Rink has raised more than $500,000.

There are three honorary chairs for the event: Victoria Sotiriadis and Pete and Gary Dalliday.

The latest health and medical news emailed to you every Sunday.

“I had many surgeries and five rounds of chemotherapy at Sick Kid’s Hospital. I’ve been in remission since March,” said Sotiriadis, a grade 10 student at St. Peter, who battled Hodgkins Lymphoma last year.

Gary Dalliday is the former sports director at CHEX-TV. He’s beaten cancer twice.

“It can be done. Anything that Pete and I can do to raise more funds for research for doctors and whatnot would be great,” said Gary Dalliday.

His son Pete is a morning show host on Fresh Radio as well as the play-by-play voice of the Petes on YourTV.

Fans can put the name of a loved one who has survived, is fighting or has lost a battle with cancer, on the jersey for $20.

“Let’s put Gord Downie‘s name on the jersey as the first name,” suggested Pete Dalliday.

Tickets for the game against Oshawa can be purchased at the Canadian Cancer Society’s Peterborough office on The Kingsway for $20.  Seven of those dollars will go towards Pink in the Rink.
