A special prosecutor appointed to look into conflict at Nanaimo city council won’t be recommending any charges.
Mark Jetté was appointed last December “in relation to matters involving the Nanaimo City Council,” and after the RCMP had requested assistance from the province according to a release from the BC Prosecution Service.
His appointment was made public in April following the arrest and release on conditions of an un-named councillor.
Jetté has now released the file and won’t be forwarding a report to Crown Counsel for consideration of charges.

“The matters involving the councillor who had been made the subject of release conditions were resolved without the necessity of court proceedings,” reads the release.
Nanaimo chief administrative officer Tracy Samra has alleged Councillor Wendy Pratt assaulted her during a meeting back in February.
A cell phone video circulated on YouTube appears to show the councillor swatting the phone from someone’s hand.
Pratt resigned her post back in April.
It’s just the latest development in a series of events causing turmoil at Nanaimo city hall.
Last November, an email allegedly written by Mayor Bill McKay containing sensitive personal information about Councillors was leaked.
Prior to that, Councillors issued a letter accusing the mayor of secret business dealings and calling for an RCMP investigation.
And back in March of last year, a group of Councillors published a letter of non-confidence in McKay, accusing him of bullying the city’s interim chief administrative officer.
