The RCMP major crimes unit and police in Lake Louise say the death of a woman found in her Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise hotel room on Sunday was a homicide.

In a news release sent Tuesday afternoon, Lake Louise RCMP not only confirmed the manner of death, but said that the death was linked to the discovery of another body west of Lake Louise.

A 52-year-old man’s body was found on Emerald Lake Road in the Golden RCMP detachment area on the same day.

No suspects are being sought by police in relation to the deaths.

RCMP were called for a welfare check at about 2:40 p.m. but did not have information on what spurred the call.

“Investigators do not believe there is a risk to the public in connection with the woman’s death,” RCMP said in a statement on Monday.

The regional director for public relations at the Fairmont said staff members are cooperating with local authorities in the investigation and declined to provide further details.

“We are deeply saddened by yesterday’s events and our thoughts are with the guest’s family at this very difficult time,” Angela Moore wrote in an email to Global News.

The identity of the woman in the hotel room still hasn’t been confirmed, police said Tuesday. No cause of death was released.
