Two Toronto police officers recorded on a dashboard camera mocking a woman with Down syndrome are expected to plead guilty at a disciplinary hearing next month, a police tribunal heard Wednesday.
Const. Sasa Sljivo and Const. Matthew Saris did not make an appearance at the police tribunal which had their case postponed until Nov. 28.
“What we’ve been told is that on the 28th, the officers will be entering a guilty plea and then there will be an opportunity to make submissions regarding their sentence,” the Munoz’s family lawyer Jennifer Macko told reporters on Wednesday.
“The family will be making some statements about the impact and the appropriate sentence. Then they’ll reserve and a written decision will come shortly thereafter.”
Sljivo is charged with misconduct related to the use of profane, abusive or insulting language. Saris is charged with misconduct related to the failure to report Sljivo’s comments, which contravened the Ontario Human Rights Code.
