Kingston area students learn healthy lifestyle choices from local emergency services

More than 1,200 students from 30 different schools are attending ‘racing against drugs’ at CFB Kingston’s Thompson Drill Hall aimed at promoting a drug and alcohol-free lifestyle.

The week-long event features representatives from Kingston Police, Kingston Fire Rescue, the OPP and RCMP.

“The programs are always really well received. All the feedback we’ve gotten from teachers and supervisors, a lot of the reviews have been saying that it’s a great program,” Project Coordinator Haley Douglas said.

The Grade 6 students take turns meeting with each community group to learn how to avoid drugs and alcohol use prior to beginning high school.

The event has been held for 20 years, and this year organizers were forced to turn some schools away due to limited spots.
