Shocking video has emerged of a seven-year-old boy being run over by a school bus in Abbotsford, sending the child to hospital with serious injuries.
The video began making the rounds on social media on Friday, despite the incident happening on the afternoon of Oct. 6.
It happened within the 3000-block of Curlew Drive, near Highstreet Shopping Centre.
Two students can be seen exiting the bus, but the driver appears to not see the second child and proceeds to drive forward, knocking the boy to the ground.
WATCH: A neighbour’s security system caught the incident on camera. Warning: the images might be disturbing to some viewers.
The boy remains in BC Children’s Hospital with serious injuries.
The school bus comes from Khalsa Centre in Mission, on Stave Lake Road.
Abbotsford police are investigating the incident but wouldn’t give any further details as the investigation is ongoing.
The driver is an employee of the Khalsa Centre and is cooperating with police.
A statement from the school says they “deeply regret that this accident happened.”
“Khalsa School’s first priority is the care and well-being of our students, and to ensure our transportation practices are safe,” reads part of the statement.
The school said the driver was fired following an investigation into the incident.
“We will continue to provide assistance to the child’s family and work to ensure another accident like this does not occur.”
Family, neighbours react
Neighbour Sushil Saini said he was inside his home when his wife alerted him to something happening outside.
“The mother took her son and put him on the driveway, and he was crying and crying,” Saini said.
