RCMP warns drivers to stay home

Mounties say drivers ignoring signs, moving barricades to travel on closed highways. Vytai Brannan/Global News

SASKATOON – Stay home. That’s the advice from the RCMP.

RCMP have responded to over 150 calls, many for vehicles in ditches, stuck on the road or jack-knifed semis.

Mounties are also reporting some motorists are ignoring signs warning roads are closed and getting stranded along with other motorists moving barricades then continuing on the closed highways.

Police say the storm is of such severity that it is making it difficult to impossible even for emergency crews to be on the roads.

Visibility is reduced to nothing in many parts of Saskatchewan and driving conditions will worsen when night comes, with visibility becoming non-existent.

Mounties are advising motorists who become stranded to ensure exhaust pipes don’t become obstructed and to run vehicles intermittently to conserve fuel while staying warm.
