North Vancouver firefighters rescue injured hiker

WATCH: It was meant to be a simple hike with dogs, but turned into a major rescue. As Jill Bennett reports, the case is yet another reminder to be prepared before heading into the backcountry – Oct 7, 2017

North Vancouver District firefighters helped a woman who fell while hiking a trail near Deep Cove on Friday.

“We received a call, a report of an individual had fallen 10-15 metres down an embankment off of the Baden Powell trail,” Assistant Chief Brian Hutchinson said.

Police officers and paramedics were also at the scene.

Because of the location and her injuries, it took crews about 45 minutes to get the woman to an ambulance.

“These types of incidents take time,” Hutchinson said, “but they take time because we’re insuring that we’re doing things correctly, and patient care is always our primary concern.”

The woman is being treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
