The City of Vancouver is unveiling an affordable homes project located along the 1100 block of Seymour Street.

The project will house singles, couples and families. Officials say the highest rents in the building will reach the low-end of market prices.

“We have a goal to get a thousand more units compared to this, built by the end of next year,” said Robertson.

The city said the 81 affordable homes will share the space with four community non-profits.

But Robertson stressed the need for more assistance.

“If we get more support from the provincial and federal governments it’ll be more affordable, we can get more affordable units across the city,” said Robertson.

“In this case for these last few years a number of these projects were really built off the development fees, that’s how we’ve been able to finance it.”

The city said the $28-million needed for the 1105 Seymour project came entirely from developer fees.
