Winnipeg police to add mobile barricades for large-scale events

Mobile barricades are coming to the Winnipeg Police Service.

Deputy Chief Gord Perrier said Monday it’s looking at introducing the product to its security arsenal at larger scale events like concerts and football games.

“We expect to introduce some new products, probably this year, that you will notice.  There will be mobile barricades to assist police in blocking areas that there is no vehicle access, or we don’t want vehicle access,” Dep. Chief Perrier said.

He was speaking at a news conference called in the wake of the mass shooting  in Las Vegas and the terror attack in Edmonton.

“I can say with great confidence there is going to be learning opportunities in all these situations,” the Dep. Chief said. “Its that balance of access, that balance with security.  And that’s always a difficult thing to put in place.”
