Jared Lange/submitted

As I’m writing this, it’s cloudy and has been a bit of a rainy morning but southern Manitoba will experience a nice start to October.

Last week, there was a system expected to make its way towards southern Manitoba Saturday night and Sunday which would bring stronger winds and some rain. The heaviest precipitation was expected to be both to the west and then the east.

Monday morning, while southern Manitoba has had some showers, there are winter storm warnings in southern Alberta and in southwest Saskatchewan. Some areas could see nearly 20 cm and winds could be gusting close to 90 km/h. The snow slowly turns into rain in Saskatchewan with areas just south of Saskatoon expected to see 50 to 70 mm.

The impact of this system on northwestern Ontario will be less significant but the region will certainly get more rain than southern Manitoba.

Underneath this low pressure system, southern Manitoba will clear later in the day Monday with a bit more rain showing up on Tuesday. More than a rainy day, Tuesday will be a cool one with temperatures only getting just above 10 degrees Celsius.

We can look forward to the skies clearing on Wednesday with some warmer temperatures likely to show up closer to the weekend. As this warmer weather arrives, so will more rain. The main point of focus will likely be northwestern Ontario. Southeastern Manitoba may see some rain from this system and some stronger winds are possible as well.
