Unifor National President Jerry Dias will join the picket line at the General Motors CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ont. on Sunday.
A media release says Dias will update members of Local 88 on the progress being made in the discussions with the automaker.
He’ll be joined by Local 88 president Dan Borthwick and CAMI plant chair Mike Van Boekel.
“The successful conclusion of these talks is vital to the future of the entire community,” Dias said in a statement issued Saturday.
The two sides have much more work to do to come to an agreement.
A statement on the Unifor Local 88 webpage suggests the talks held Thursday at GM’s Detroit headquarters didn’t bring the strike any closer to an end.
The strike began when members of Unifor Local 88 walked out on Sept. 17 as negotiators worked to have General Motors designate the plant as the lead producer of the Equinox sport utility vehicle.
Dias will be addressing media at around 11 a.m. on Sunday.
