Man in custody following police chase related to domestic incident in Calgary’s northwest

Police confirmed that a man was taken into custody following a police pursuit and domestic incident that started in northwest Calgary Saturday.

Police were called to reports of a stabbing at a home at around 1 p.m. After the assault, officials believe the suspect set the house on fire and fled the scene before police arrived.

When officers entered the home, they found a man injured. He was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

The suspect was located shortly after in his vehicle, but he refused to stop for police. Officers followed the vehicle using various resources, including HAWCS and eventually the vehicle left city limits and drove towards Airdrie.

The Airdrie RCMP helped in the police pursuit by deploying a spike belt, which brought the vehicle to a stop around 4:30 p.m.

The suspect was then taken into custody and charges are pending.

Police continue to investigate the stabbing and arson; however, police believe the incident is domestic in nature.

Due to the domestic nature of the incident, no further details will be released to protect the privacy of the family involved.​
