Today marks International Day of Peace and a local student is doing all they can to encourage Londoners and Canadians at large to take note of the day.
Western University’s Prachir Pasricha reached out to cities across Canada to light up buildings and monuments in honour of the United Nations-endorsed day.
“I was fortunate enough to attend council and propose a motion through councillor Squire to request that all City of London buildings light blue and white in recognition of the day. The motion passed 14-0,” said Pasricha.
International Day of Peace began in 1982 and recognizes the value that lies in world peace, humanitarian aid and the human cost of war.
“World peace is a concept that a lot of people don’t really think about often or at all, just because a lot of people may consider it naive, or simple-minded or something that is beyond our capabilities. How I see it is, if it’s something that we want, it’s something that we have to work towards, and the first step is raising awareness,” said Pasricha.
City hall, the J Allyn Taylor building at Dundas and Wellington as well as the fountain at the Forks of the Thames will all be bathed in the colours in honour of the International Day of Peace.
