Montreal marathon cancelled because of dangerous heat conditions

The Oasis Rock ‘n’ Roll Montreal Marathon has been cancelled due to high humidity and heat conditions forecast for Sunday.

Race officials called off the event, saying in a statement that it is for the safety of the participants.

Environment Canada is forecasting a record-breaking 28 C on Sunday.

The heat and humidity have cancelled only the marathon event; the half marathon and the 10-kilometre races have been scheduled to start earlier in the morning.

The half marathon will start an hour earlier at 7:30 a.m.

The juniors le P’tit Marathon five-kilometre and the one-kilometre Tel-Jeunes races will not be affected by the cancellation and they will still be held on Saturday at their scheduled time.

Runners who were expecting to partake in the marathon can either run the half marathon or transfer over to another Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon event in the race series.

Participants may also request a refund.

All runners who signed up for the marathon will receive a detailed letter with all the new information. You can also find all event information on the  Rock ‘n’ Roll Montreal Marathon website.
