WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Goldeyes‘ bid for a second straight American Association has been pushed back a day because of rain.
A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for Winnipeg on Tuesday, hours before the Goldeyes face the Wichita Wingnuts in the title game of the championship series. The game will now be played in Winnipeg on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m.
“The American Association league office determined Tuesday’s forecasted conditions may not have allowed the completion of a nine-inning game,” a release from the Goldeyes stated.

The best-of-five series has already been interrupted due to weather. Rain in Winnipeg on Saturday forced officials to postpone game three after delaying the start for roughly an hour.

The Goldeyes set up a decisive game by beating Wichita 4-3 in a 17-inning contest Monday night that ran a league record five hours and 59 minutes. The Wingnuts appeared to have won the league title in the ninth inning but their pitcher was called for a balk. Winnipeg’s Casey Turgeon later drove in the tying run to extend the game.
The Goldeyes are looking to become just the second team in American Association history to win back-to-back championships. Wichita is searching for its first title since 2014.
