A 14-year-old boy is facing weapons and mischief charges after allegedly setting off bear spray in a McDonald’s on Rochdale Boulevard Saturday morning.
Police, firefighters and EMS responded to the call at 11:14 a.m. CT when staff and customers at the restaurant began coughing because of fumes in the air.
Around 30 people inside the McDonald’s were evacuated as fire crews dealt with the spray inside. No one was injured.
Three youth had left the restaurant prior to the incident. They were located and identified by police, who confirmed a type of bear spray was deployed in the washroom.
The 14-year-old, who can’t be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, committing mischief under $5,000 and administering a noxious substance.
He is set to appear in court on Oct. 30.
