Brampton man charged in big-rig crash along Hwy. 401 in Oxford County

A 36-year-old man faces impaired driving-related charges after a serious crash along Highway 401 in Blanford-Blenheim Township.

Oxford County OPP say they were called out to the highway’s eastbound lanes just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, west of Oxford Road 29.

Officers say their investigation showed an eastbound transport truck slowed down abruptly and was rear ended by another big rig.

The man driving the second truck was trapped in the cab and members of the Blanford-Blenheim Township Fire Department freed him.

The man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. He was treated and transported to hospital by Oxford County EMS.

Officers say about 200 litres of diesel fuel also spilled during the crash, but it was contained.

Another vehicle was damaged as a result of the crash when it hit flying debris. The OPP says the car had to be towed from the scene.

As a result of the investigation into the crash, Oxford OPP have charged a 36-year-old Brampton man with driving while ability impaired causing bodily harm, failing to provide a breath sample and driving while under suspension.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing and anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Oxford County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
