Multi-coloured crosswalks were proposed during Coquitlam’s city council meeting on Monday.
Councillors heard arguments for a rainbow-coloured crosswalk, as well as one with the colours of the transgender flag from Nicola Spurling of the Tri-Cities Pride Society.

“I think that it’ll show current and future residents of Coquitlam that they’re wanted in Coquitlam, that they’re accepted in Coquitlam because unfortunately the perception of this area is that it’s not as queer-friendly as other areas in the Lower Mainland and B.C.,” Spurling said.
“Some think that we’re there already, others think we can get there through other means but generally everyone is supportive of symbols that are completely inclusive like the rainbow crosswalk.”
Council will look into budget and location details before making any decisions.
