Moose caught in Winnipeg dies before release into wild

The wayward moose that nearly invaded the Banjo Bowl Saturday has died.

A spokesperson for Manitoba Sustainable Development said the moose did not survive the trip back to the wild after it was tranquilized over the weekend.

The moose was first spotted in the Wildwood area Friday morning but managed to evade conservation officers.

On Saturday, as some 33,000 fans were making their way to the Banjo Bowl, the moose was spotted again near Pembina Highway, before eventually making its was into the fields near Investors Group Field.

It was tranquilized just before the 2 p.m. kickoff.

On Monday an official for Sustainable Development said in a statement the “stress and exertion of running through a populated urban area for two days took a toll on the moose and unfortunately it did not survive transport.”
