Cops for Kids cycling tour begins in Kelowna

It’ll be a grueling nearly 1,000 kilometre ride for 25 cyclists who have just started the 10-day Cops for Kids fundraiser.

The 16th annual fundraiser hit the streets in Kelowna Friday morning. Riders will pedal across Okanagan, Kootenay and Thompson regions all to raise awareness and funds for children in medical, physical or traumatic stress.

The best pick-me-up for the exhausted riders comes from the ‘little ambassadors’ who directly benefit from the funds raised by the event.

“These riders suffer through their own pain cycling the distance, but they know it’s nothing compared to the struggles faced by these smiling kids,” ride captain Julio Krenz said.

“These kids are an inspiration to our team and that’s what keeps them pedaling day after day.”

All the money raised within the Southeast District stays in the region. Since 2001 more than $4-million has been raised.
