Two more people have announced their intentions to run for Edmonton mayor in the upcoming fall election.
Steve Shewchuk is a small business owner who is frustrated with the way the city is currently being run and wants to see change.
“It’s not in the direction that citizens, taxpayers and business owners want,” he said Thursday at a media availability announcing his intentions to run for mayor.
“There’s bike lanes and we have some transit issues, major bridge delays and stuff like that. We need to take time to see what the citizens want and direct our attention to that.”

Shewchuk said the city should be run like a business, with the citizens being the customers. Shewchuk is focusing his campaign on efficiency, transparency and accountability.
“We deserve the right to have our money spent as wisely and efficiently as possible. The city has no competition in the sense that, I don’t have a choice where my tax dollar goes so I want my dollars being used wisely and myself and many other people don’t believe that’s the case.”

Neil Stephens has also announced his intention to run for mayor. As a small business owner, Stephens said he fully understands the necessity and value of disciplined and responsible fiscal practices.
“I have been sending documents and drawings for a variety of projects and ideas to council and media for years and in talking to people across the city, deep concern has been expressed concerning numerous issues seen as failings by this mayor and council,” Stephens said in a media release.
“I know well our storied past and I am intent on building upon that history and creating a better future for all residents.”
