Toronto firefighters embarked on a mission Thursday in support of the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
About a dozen riders took off from fire station 243 at 7:30 a.m. The first leg of their almost 500-kilometre journey runs from Toronto to Napanee. The second and final part will take them to Ottawa.
The 2017 Canadian Firefighters Annual Memorial Ceremony is slated for Sunday in the nation’s capital.
Shaun and Allison Chisholm are both Toronto firefighters. They are also husband and wife and they have been training hard for this ride.
“We’ve been going out, just the two of us, doing long rides and just getting the miles in,” said Allison Chisholm.
Those long practice rides ranged from 120 kilometres and up.
The Toronto Professional Firefighters Celtic Society is looking to raise $10,000 for the Canadian Fallen Firefighters memorial.
The group was presented with a cheque for $1,000 from the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters’ Association to help propel them in their ambitious feat.
