Manitoba’s civilian police watchdog is investigating after a 14-year-old girl’s collarbone was fractured during arrest.
Winnipeg police told the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) about the incident on Sept. 2.
Just after midnight on the same day, officers responded to reports of a stolen vehicle. Officer located the vehicle and “an individual fled”.

Police said a foot pursuit followed and an officer pushed the teen from behind causing her to fall down.
After the arrest the teen said her shoulder was sore and was taken to the Children’s Hospital. She was treated for a fractured collarbone and later released from hospital.
“Although this was not a serious injury as defined by regulations, the IIU civilian director determined it to be in the public interest for the agency to investigate,” an IIU release said Wednesday. “Since the investigation is ongoing, no further details will be provided at this time.”
The IIU is a civilian organization that investigates serious incidents involving police, on or off duty.
