Montreal drug bust leads to 10 arrests, large amount of narcotics seized

Ten people have been arrested during a drug bust by Montreal’s north and east end units as part of a movement to crackdown on fentanyl overdoses in the city.

Montreal police dismantled two drug trafficking networks during the bust on Friday.

“I think we should put our efforts into stopping the vendors and distributers,” said Montreal police chief Philippe Pichet.

“I think we should put our efforts to stop the people who are selling these drugs.”

Montreal mayor Denis Coderre argued Tuesday that the city has to be vigilant to avoid a drug crisis.

“Since day one, we were expecting [fentanyl to come] here. The fact that we have 12 overdoses that might be fentanyl and opioids, we need to make sure we are connecting all the dots together,” he said.

“It is a matter of health care and a matter of public safety.”

Seven of the suspects appeared in court over the weekend to face charges of drug trafficking and possession of narcotics with intent to traffic:

  • Yann Bouthillette, 33
  • Alain Julien, 28
  • Dominique Gauthier, 23
  • Dominique Leblanc, 20
  • Steven Lallemant, 20
  • Joey Marcil, 19

Seized by police were:

  • 13 g of heroin
  • 19 g of fentanyl
  • 225 g of cocaine
  • 24 g of crack
  • 844 g of marijuana
  • Nine grams of Hashish
  • 1153 methamphetamine tablets
  • 230 ml of GHB
  • Four codeine tablets
  • Four grams magic mushrooms
  • 11 Cialis tablets
  • 22 g and 37 ketamine tablets
  • $3,010 in Canadian money
