Nine Coquitlam Search and Rescue members scoured the area to find them.

Team member Michael Coyle says the group didn’t leave much in the way of a trip plan, and they had to do some sleuthing to figure out where they might be.

“They ended up using up all the battery life on their cell phones, so we haven’t been able to talk to them at all. So everything is second-hand through their family and friends.”

He adds they weren’t entirely sure how prepared the trio were.

“We called friends and family and asked what they usually take with them.”

He says Snapchat photos of the group they received from a friend put the hikers on the Swan Falls trail.

The group had left at approximately noon Sunday.

Coquitlam Search and Rescue were called at 11:30 p.m.

According to Coyle, they the group became stranded when darkness fell, and they hadn’t packed a flashlight.

Coyle says leaving a trip plan, only using mobile phones in an emergency, and packing a flashlight are all good steps to take in case any would-be hikers get lost.

All three are safe and sound, and have been walked out.
