Great Lakes conditions could be hazardous over Labour Day weekend, U.S. Coast Guard warns

Anyone visiting the Great Lakes area over the Labour Day weekend should exercise caution due to “potentially hazardous weather conditions,” the U.S. Coast Guard warned on Friday.

Beachgoers are being asked to stay out of the water and avoid rocks and piers, as high waves and heavy surf can knock people into the water, the Coast Guard said in a press release.

“Even after hazardous conditions have subsided, it can still take an additional day for lake conditions to calm,” the Coast Guard warned.

The advisory applies to Lake Superior, Michigan, Huron and Erie
