1 dead in Abbotsford shooting at Gladwin and Huntingdon Roads

One person is dead after gunshots rang out south of Abbotsford tonight. Police believe it was targetted. Catherine Urquhart has more – Sep 1, 2017

A young man is dead following a shooting that took place at Gladwin and Huntingdon Roads on Thursday, the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) said in a news release.

Police responded to the scene at 6 p.m. after hearing a report about shots fired in the area.

They arrived to find a dead man.

Speaking to CKNW, Cst. Ian MacDonald said, “It certainly has the earmarks of a targeted incident,” but officers are still early in their investigation.

“I certainly am concerned any time we have any of these incidents take place,” he said.

“That’s always amplified when it happens in public places. In and around neighbourhoods, schools, what have you. It’s unfortunate but certainly a side effect, I think, that all communities in the Lower Mainland are seeing.

“People involved in gangs, and people who are part of that drug world, are becoming more brazen, they’re becoming more violent, and it definitely is impacting communities.”

The APD’s Major Crime Unit is investigating alongside the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).
