Lethbridge police charge 2 men in connection to robbery spree

Lethbridge police have charged two men from Magrath, Alta. in relation to a string of robberies that date back several months.

On Monday night, officers were called in to investigate two armed robberies, one at a Fas Gas on 4 Avenue South, the other at a Mac’s store on Sunridge Road West.

In both cases, a man entered the store, produced a weapon, demanded cash and then fled the scene.

Nobody was injured in either incident.

Early Tuesday, just before 1 a.m., police said the suspect and a second man were arrested in south Lethbridge.

Police believe one of the men is responsible for 10 robberies dating back to April, and say the other man is alleged to have been involved in three of them.

Derek Ross Blackmer, 31, is facing 10 counts of robbery, while his co-accused, 26-year-old Joshua Lloyd Alston, faces three counts of robbery.

Both men have court dates in September.

Lethbridge police believe the robberies were motivated by drug use.
