RCMP said the collision happened near Hoodoo Creek, between Field and Golden, at around 3:30 p.m.

“We are still investigating the cause of the collision, however initial reports indicate that the motorhome crossed the centre line, colliding with the tractor trailer,” Const. Spencer Lainchbury with the Golden-Field RCMP said in a Wednesday news release.

The driver of the motorhome, 31, was airlifted to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary by STARS Air Ambulance but died en route.

RCMP said the driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

Highway 1 was reduced to single lane alternating traffic while RCMP investigated, resulting in extensive delays both east and westbound. The highway was completely reopened by 6:30 p.m., according to Drive BC.

Photos sent to Global News show debris on the side of the road and a long line of traffic stretching along the highway.
