St. Thomas community celebrating life of late fire chief

Residents of St. Thomas and the local fire department are gathering to celebrate the community’s late fire chief.

Rob Broadbent died on Monday at the age of 56 following a battle with kidney cancer.

Broadbent, who was named chief in 2010, had been on leave for most of the summer.

He was born and raised in St. Thomas, having served with the St. Thomas Fire Department since he was 24 years old.

The service and celebration of Broadbent’s life will be held at the Central United Church at 135 Wellington St. in St. Thomas at 1:30 p.m.
