Hazmat team called out to Vancouver’s Olympic Village

Two Vancouver Police officers have been treated in hospital after conducting a drug investigation in the Olympic Village. – Aug 29, 2017

Vancouver Fire and Rescue’s hazardous materials team and the Vancouver Police Department’s Emergency Response Team were called out to an apparent drug lab on Columbia Street in the Olympic Village Monday.

Vancouver police say just after 4 p.m., officers executed a drug-related search warrant and Vancouver Fire and Rescue were called in to assist as the officers saw some unknown substances.

Police officers with long guns were part of the response.

Neighbours say police took a battering ram to the door of the unit. Surrounding residents were not evacuated.

Another neighbour tells CKNW they saw police checking the apartment unit’s two entrances about three weeks ago.

Police say officers will continue to contain the residence until the scene can be processed safely.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Police have not said if anyone was arrested.
