Brittany Kennell, 1st Canadian on The Voice, releases new song

Brittany Kennell, the first Canadian to make it on The Voice, will be releasing a new song in the coming weeks.

The Montreal native who hails from Beaconsfield in the West Island quickly rose to fame on the reality TV singing competition show.

After being eliminated in the knockout rounds, she went on to fulfill a life-long dream — singing the national anthem at a Montreal Canadiens game.

Since then, Kennell said she’s been working on her new music, but still has memories of her days competing on stage.

“The Voice was such a wonderful experience for me because I really got to figure out who I was and who I wanted to be,” Kennell said on Global News Morning.

“I’ve been hibernating and just writing and recording and just focusing on that.”

Though she now lives in Nashville, TN, Kennell said she’ll never forget where she comes from.

“I still call Montreal home even though I’ve been in Nashville for six years,” Kennell said.

“My whole family is here and I love Montreal.”

The first single is called Unveiled, and will come out Sept. 15.
