What goes better together than music and art?
That’s why Blues Fest and the Limestone City Tattoo and Arts Festival partnered up this weekend to bring concert goers some custom tattoos.
After all the ts were crossed and i’s dotted, a mobile tattoo shop was set up in Confederation Park and it’s been a huge hit.
Kingston’s top artists curated a custom selection for the public to choose from, ranging from flowers to skulls, drum sticks to logos.
Ashley Silversides, an organizer of the upcoming tattoo festival, says the designs were all custom created for the event.
“Each artist did sort of their own flash, so it’s custom flash — really Blues Fest oriented, really music oriented. We’re trying to have something for everybody.”
And those custom designs drew dozens, both for the artwork but also because of low costs. Professionals who normally charge over $150 an hour, are giving tattoos ranging from $50 to $100.
But the really great thing is that 100 per cent of what is paid for the tattoo goes to the Kingston Military Family Resource Centre, which Silversides says is so important for the community.
“You pay $50 dollars for your tattoo, $50 goes to the KMFRC. Kingston is a huge military community, but it’s a huge art community. So here’s our chance to mix both those things together, which is really great!”
Organizers hope to raise as much money for local military families over the weekend as they can, but also drum up some awareness about the Limestone City Tattoo and Arts Festival which hits downtown Kingston on September 16th and 17th.
