The newly unveiled sketches show a mix of industrial features, natural elements and expansive walkways, some of which jut out over the waterfront.
The diverse ideas range from cascading water features to an outdoor living room on a floating barge.
The public is being invited to weigh in online or at the Lister lock where the designs will be on display until Sept. 10.
The winning proposal will ultimately be selected by a jury of volunteer experts.
Ken Coit, with the Tourism and Culture department, says the City of Hamilton is pleased with the quality of the proposals.
The promenade will be part of a massive redevelopment at Pier 8 involving 1,500 residential units.
Construction is expected to start in the spring of 2018.
