Strathroy driver, 22, seriously injured after totalling Mercedes near Grand Bend

A Strathroy driver, 22, is in hospital with serious injuries after an early morning single-vehicle crash near Grand Bend.

Huron OPP, Huron County Paramedic Services, and South Huron Fire Department personnel were called to reports of a serious crash on Grand Bend Line, or Highway 81, between Kirkton Road and B Line Road just before 4:30 a.m. on Monday.

The heavily damaged Mercedes was found off the roadway in a field and the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle by fire crews and was rushed to a local hospital before being airlifted to London.

A section of Highway 81 was closed for nearly eleven hours before reopening just before 3:30 p.m. Monday. The crash remains under investigation but Huron OPP report alcohol is believed to have played a role.
