Toronto police have confirmed that the suspicious death of a 22-year-old man in downtown Toronto early Sunday morning is being investigated as a homicide.
Police said they were called to a home on Lippincott Street, near Bathurst and College streets around 8 a.m., where officers located the body of a man suffering from obvious signs of trauma. He was pronounced dead on scene.
Ross Nichols, who owns a restaurant in the area, told reporters it was an employee of his who found the man on her way into work.
“She went over and thought maybe the person had too much to drink or maybe he was overdosing,” Nichols said. “But it was clear that this person was dead … it’s awful”
The man was identified by Toronto police on Monday as Khadr Mohamed.
Det. Shawn Mahoney told reporters that after talking to witnesses, police know that something happened last night involving an altercation.
“We know it was a warm Saturday night in Toronto and a lot of people were out, and we want to see if it has anything to do with the situation involving the man we’ve located,” Mahoney said.
