No foul play is suspected in the death of a Belleville, Ont. teen who died while on vacation in Varadero, Cuba last month.
A Cuban death certificate obtained by the Toronto Star and issued by Dr. Sergio Piera, director of Cuba’s Institute of Legal Medicine determined Alex Sagriff died of heart and lung issues.
No drugs or alcohol were found in the 18-year-old’s system.
The teen was on a graduation vacation organized by S-Trip, a private travel company that organizes vacations for high school students.
Her body was discovered in her hotel room on July 6th.
Sagriff recently graduated from St. Theresa Secondary School and was to begin post-secondary school at Loyalist College this fall.
The teen is being remembered by the community as a bright young woman with a kind heart.
Her little league baseball coach, Dave Cleary remembers her can-do attitude.
“Always smiling. I’d never see Alex without a smile,”
A GoFundMe page was set up to help Sagriff’s family with funeral and travel costs and has raised more than $91,000 which will also be donated to help support community initiatives and school bursaries.
