Two dead marine animals have washed ashore at Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park, according to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO).
Bruce Nunn, a spokesperson for Nova Scotia’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR), said they received a report at about 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.
DNR wildlife technicians were joined by Parks staff and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
Nunn said one of the animals, found on the park’s main beach, was dragged away by hand and loaded onto a truck.

DFO spokesperson Stephen Bornais said the fish, identified as a blue marlin, has been taken to cold storage at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography pending further action. He said the marlin was about 11-feet long, including the “sword.”
A thresher shark was also found on the park’s third beach and remains there due to, Nunn said, more difficulty reaching the area. DNR is still on site and will use resources with plans to remove the second animal by the end of day.
Bornais said there have been no decisions made at this time whether a necropsy will be done on the blue marlin to determine a cause of death.
