Suspect arrested in donation jar theft from Kingston area campground

An arrest has been made following the theft of a donation jar at a campground north of Kingston.

The theft, which was caught by surveillance cameras, happened at Rideau Acres Campground on the morning of August 2nd. The footage shows what appears to be a woman taking the jar before leaving the campground.

The donation jar was raising money to help pay tuition for a pair of brothers from western Kenya to attend secondary school.

Tuition is a $1000 a year per child. There was close to $300 in the jar at the time of the crime.

The campground posted images of the suspect on social media and it was shared more than three thousand times in just a few days.

A 25-year-old Ottawa woman was arrested Thursday when police found her sleeping in her car in a parking lot on Bath Road. She’s also been charged with theft following an incident at a grocery store on Midland Avenue on August 3rd.
