If you drive a Ford truck – you have a better chance of having it stolen in the Queen City.
Regina police are warning residents that Ford F-series trucks are a favourite target for vehicle thieves.
In the past three months, 16 per cent of stolen vehicles in Regina have been Ford F-series trucks.
This past week 41 per cent of stolen vehicles have been Ford F-series trucks.
SGI says those numbers reflect provincial numbers, going all the way back to 2012.
“It’s a very popular vehicle, so it stands to reason that it would be very popular among thieves as well,” SGI Media Relations Manager Tyler McMurchy said.
The Ford F150 is the most popular among thieves this year, with 118 theft claims to SGI. The Ford F350 comes in second, with 101 theft claims this year, followed by the Dodge Ram 1500.
In too many of the cases according to police, the vehicles were left unlocked or the keys were left inside the vehicle.
Police say other deterrents from having your vehicle stolen are parking in a well-lit area/driveway or a locked garage.
“If you’ve made the investment in the vehicle and you want to protect it, then take some measures to look after it,” Regina Police Service Spokesperson Elizabeth Popowich said. “And the simplest thing of all of these is simply locking the door and taking the keys.”
