Three motorcycle drivers have been charged with careless driving on Nova Scotia’s Highway 102 after initially being seen travelling at a high rate of speed near a serious collision.
RCMP say a member of traffic services was responding to a serious collision with both lights and siren activated on July 21, when he noticed a group of motorcyclists travelling together at a high rate of speed. Some drivers slowed down when they saw the police vehicle, while others either exited off the highway or continued at a high rate of speed.
The officer took Exit 5 for Fall River and saw three of the motorcyclists in front of him. Police say the drivers were speeding, driving erratically and passing unsafely along Highway 2.
According to a police report, the motorcycles stopped at the roadblock set up around the collision scene. All three were served summary offence tickets for careless and imprudent driving, which carries a fine of up to $1,200, as well as six points and a possible one-year driving suspension.
A 27-year-old Cole Harbour man, a 27-year-old man from Fall River, and a 27-year-old Upper Tantallon woman are all scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Oct. 6.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
