Group gathers to protest Nova Scotia plan to burn tires

A company embroiled in controversy over a plan to burn 2,000 tires a day in Nova Scotia is countering its critics. As Ross Lord reports, Lafarge Canada insists surrounding communities have nothing to fear – Jul 28, 2017

A protest was being held today over the burning of tires at a LaFarge site in Nova Scotia.

The group planned to gather in Truro over the plan to burn the rubber tires at the Lafarge Brookfield cement plant.

Lydia Sorflaten of Citizens Against Burning of Tires is concerned the burning could have adverse effects on people’s health and the environment.

The province granted a permit allowing the company to burn $750,000 tires per year.
