It’s not often a drug dealer emails a police officer asking if they’d like to buy some fentanyl.
But that’s exactly what appears to have happened to Abbotsford Police Cst. Ian MacDonald, who received a price list from an unknown sender offering up fentanyl, roxycodone and cyanide tablets.

MacDonald replied back – identifying himself as a cop.
“I’ve got a couple seconds, so I figure I should probably respond to him by thanking him for his e-mail to the Abbotsford Police Department, and suggesting that if he wants to sell these pills that an in-person, face-to-face meeting might be the best way to do it.”
That touched off an hour-long series of back and forth emails, in which the sender apparently missed the part about MacDonald emailing from a police department, and zeroed in on the fact he apparently wanted to buy pills.
“For the next 10 email exchanges, despite the fact that I reiterate several times that we are a police department, he just is persistent in trying to get me to place an order,” MacDonald said.
“Either this individual is incredibly stupid or incredibly brazen because he’s in another part of the world and he feels untouchable.”
It’s unclear where the sender is actually located, or how serious the email was, MacDonald added.
“I guess at the low end I could end up with a pen pal, and at the high end we may have an investigation which co-ordinates with perhaps law enforcement in another country.”
MacDonald said he’s now forwarded the email chain to investigators, who will be working to see if a poorly thought out email sent to police could result in eventual drug trafficking charges.
