Toronto police responded to Ossington Station, near Bloor Street West, around 8 p.m. Wednesday after reports of a sexual assault.

Const. Victor Kwong told Global News said the incident happened as a mother and her son were on the station’s escalator. He said she brought the boy to the collector’s booth and 911 was called. Kwong said the mother was able to get a photo of the suspect as he walked out of the station.

Kwong said the suspect was involved in an undisclosed incident at a Toronto store. While he was being held by security guards, someone recognized him based on a picture released by police.

“It was the mindful eye of a passerby who said, ‘Hey, that’s actually the guy who I’ve been seeing on TV,'” he said, adding security staff then notified officers.

Chitranjan Boyal was arrested Thursday morning and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and failure to comply with probation.
