The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) will be expanding hours at seven Access Centres across the city, as part of a patient transition from four QuickCare Clinic locations.

The WRHA announced yesterday that all but one of Winnipeg’s QuickCare Clinics would be closed permanently by January 2018.

They said patients using the services at locations on Vermillion Road, Portage Avenue, Dakota Street and Jefferson Avenue will be advised to visit Access Centres in the city for immediate health care.

“Our goal will be yes, we’ll have some walk-in activity, but we want people connected to a family doctor,” Interim president of the WRHA, Réal Cloutier said.

On top of taking on walk-in patients, the seven Access Centres also provide a number of other services like midwives, child care and health resources for seniors.

“The idea was a one stop shop for people that often depend on health and community services,” Cloutier said.

The locations are scattered throughout the city at the following locations:

  • 640 Main Street
  • 135 Plaza Drive
  • 785 Keewatin Street
  • 975 Henderson Highway
  • 170 Goulet Street
  • 845 Regent Avenue West
  • 260 Booth Drive

Right now, the centres are open on weekdays, and will expand to weekend and evening hours once the four QuickCare Clinics close.
