UPDATE (July 18, 2017): Leonard Landrick, 73, was arrested on Monday night and charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of McInnes and Croker. Both the victims and the accused were residents of the same apartment building on Morton Avenue. Landrick was expected to make his first court appearance on July 18.
Susan MacDonald, president of the Ocean Towers apartment complex, said the whole ordeal has been “horrendous” and feels nothing but relief now that a suspect has been charged.
“This has been the worst any of us have ever experienced. It’s been horrendous and now it’s finished,” MacDonald said. “Now we can get on with grieving Sandy and Neil and pay proper respect to them.”
MacDonald said both victims gave their lives to the building.
“Sandy served on the board for the building, Neil was our manager, everyone knew him, he was helpful… he was everybody’s friend,” she said.

The two victims in Sunday’s double homicide in a Vancouver West End apartment have been identified by investigators.
Vancouver residents Sandra McInnes, 57, and Neil Croker, 51, were found just before 5 p.m. in an apartment complex at 1835 Morton Avenue.

Police originally took two people into custody and the pair have since been released pending further investigation.

Police believe the homicide was targeted and an isolated event.

Officers have been working with building residents to make sure their safety concerns are being addressed.
Anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity around the apartment building from Saturday afternoon to early evening Sunday is asked to contact the Vancouver Police Department’s homicide team or Crime Stoppers.
